Tuesday Fire Summary, Fatalities Holding at 41, 245,000 Acres, 5,700 Structures Destroyed, 40,000 Evacuated

Sacramento, CA...California Statewide Fire Summary,  Tuesday, October 17, 2017.  In the past week, over 245,000 acres have burned across California.  More than 11,000 firefighters continue making progress on 12 large wildfires burning in the State.  The death toll remains at 41, and more than 5,700 structures destroyed.  As containment figures continue to increase, many of the evacuations across the fires in Northern California have been lifted. Over 34,000 people remain evacuated, but many of the evacuation orders are being reevaluated. Residents returning home are urged to be cautious as hazardous conditions may remain. Santa Rosa, CA...California Statewide Fire Summary Monday, October 16, 2017. 11,000 firefighters continued to make good progress on 14 large wildfires burning across the State, despite the fact that several new fires ignited. On the current 14 large wildfires over 213,000 acres have burned, an estimated 5,700 structures destroyed and sadly 41 people have been killed. This morning, a private water tender driver assigned to the Nuns Fire tragically died in a vehicle rollover on Oakville Grade in Napa County. As containment figures have increased, many of the evacuations across the fires in Northern California have been lifted. Over 40,000 people remain evacuated, but many of the evacuation orders are being reevaluated. Residents returning home are urged to be cautious as hazardous conditions may remain. California Statewide Fire Summary Sunday, October 15, 2017.  Yesterday, nearly 11,000 firefighters beat back the flames and made good progress towards the containment of now 15 large wildfires across California. 217,566 acres have burned in the current 15 large fires, with an estimated 5,700 structures destroyed. Sadly, the death toll has risen to 40 people. As progress has been made on several fronts, many evacuations have been able to be lifted. As of Sunday morning, nearly 75,000 people remain evacuated.

Saturday Fire Summary, 35 Fatalities, 214,000 Acres, 5,700 Structures Destroyed, 100,000 Evacuated

Santa Rosa, CA...Gusty winds increased early this morning forcing new evacuations and a sparking a new large wildfire in Lake County. Currently more than 10,000 firefighters are battling 16 large wildfires that in total have burned over 214,000 acres. Approximately 100,000 people have been evacuated from the fires. These fires have been extremely destructive with 5,700 structures estimated to have been destroyed. While crews continue their search for missing people, the death toll has risen to 35.

California Fire Update, 31 Fatalities, 221,754 Acres, Temps Warming Into Weekend

Santa Rosa, CA...California Statewide Fire Summary for Friday, October 13, 2017. Overnight firefighters continued their battle against 17 wildfires that have burned 221,754 acres. Several of the wildfires merged with other fires, while full containment was made on three other.  While several of the fires experienced winds overnight they were relatively light, but a Red Flag Warning has been issued for later tonight when winds are expected to increase again. Tonight the winds are forecast to be stronger that experienced Thursday with gusts up to 45mph.  The death toll has risen to 31 across 4 fires as estimates remain that 3,500 homes and other structures have been destroyed. Hundreds of additional fire engines and firefighters have begun to arrive from several other states, not only to help relieve crews on the frontlines, but to be ready for the possibility of new wildfires that may ignite during the Red Flag Warnings.  With wildfire risk high, residents are urged to remain prepared for wildfires.

The Stanislaus National Forest enacted temporary fire restrictions in Moderate Hazard Areas on Aug. 26, Restrictions in High Hazard Areas remain in effect. Santa Rosa, CA...California Statewide Fire Summary Thursday, October 12, 2017.  Fire conditions remained active overnight as over 8,000 firefighters braced for gusty.  North winds as they battle 21 wildfires that have burned 191,437 acres. Red Flag Warnings for gusty winds and low humidity remain in effect across the fire area and  much of Northern California. These winds will continue to challenge firefighters in their efforts towards containment and will increase the risk for new fires. With high fire danger across California yesterday, a new large wildfire broke out in Fresno County. The death toll has risen to 23 across 4 fires as estimates remain that 3,500 homes and other structures were destroyed. Hundreds of additional fire engines and firefighters have been requested from other states, not only to help relieved crews on the frontlines, but to be ready for the possibility of new wildfires that may ignite during the Red Flag Warnings.

Fire Situation Update From Cal OES

Sacramento, CA...From Cal OES...Firefighters began battling multiple wildfires on October 9 in numerous counties across the entire state, prompting mass evacuations. Thousands of acres burned and threatened infrastructure as strong winds fueled the fast-moving fires. As of today, as many as 18 fires are burning in nine counties and an estimated 20,000 people are evacuated.

California Fire Update...22 Large Fires, 170,000 Acres, 17 Deaths, 3,500 Homes & Businesses Destroyed

Napa, CA...Overnight fire conditions were very active on several fronts forcing additional evacuations across Northern California. Firefighters are battling 22 large wildfires that have burned nearly 170,000 acres. Firefighters are bracing for the winds to shift this evening and increase in speed. 17 people are confirmed to have died in the wildfires this week. 11 people alone died in the Tubbs Fire, making it the 6th deadliest fire in our state’s history.
