McClintock at "Stop the Water Grab" Rally at State Capitol

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/20/2018 05:18 PM
Sacramento, CA...We live in one of the most water rich regions of the country, and yet our families are now facing the threat of catastrophic water shortages and year-round water rationing. Not because of any act of God, but because of breathtakingly stupid acts of state government. THAT we can change. We don’t build our reservoirs to more efficiently dump water into the ocean. We build them to store surplus water from wet times so that we have plenty in dry times.

The Deadly Ferguson Fire's Final Update, 96,901 Acres, 100% Contained & Two Deaths

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/20/2018 07:55 AM
Yosemite, CA...The Ferguson fire is now 100 percent contained and while we have reached a significant milestone there is still more work to be done. Firefighters will continue to patrol, mop-up and repair firelines. During the heat of the day, some interior islands of unburned vegetation will continue to ignite, but they are not a threat to containment lines. Resources continue to assess and remove hazard trees along roads, especially on the Wawona Road between Chinquapin and Tunnel View. The Wawona Road is expected to open on Friday, August 24, at 8am. This will be the final update, unless significant activity occurs.

The Donnell Fire Grows to 31,369 Acres, Containment Climbs to 36%

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/17/2018 09:42 AM
Pinecrest, CA...It was a relatively quiet night on the fire. The western edge showed little spread. Yesterday crews were able to get a good line in and made significant progress with containment in this area. Today, additional crews and aircraft are working to complete the line near Spicer Reservoir. A small portion of the fire remains active north of Highway 108 and Kennedy Meadows due to steep rugged terrain and patchy vegetation. Crews are working to complete the last short segment of containment line south of Highway 108 between Douglas Picnic Area and the Bennett Juniper. Portable pumps and hose were brought in to support hand crews. Mop up and suppression repair continues along the southern fire boundary. Drier weather, lower humidity and increased west to southwesterly winds may intensify fire activity this afternoon. With very low fuel moisture and limited recovery overnight, vegetation continues to burn for extended periods. Today is the fifth anniversary of the Rim Fire, the largest wildfire to occur in the Sierra Nevada. Half a decade later, local staff continues to work on restoration efforts.

On August 15th from the Spicer Spillway
