Celebration of Life for Howard A Castle on October 21st

Angels Camp, CA...Angels Camp resident, Howard A Castle passed away peacefully at home, September 22, 2017. Preceded in death by a son Guy David in 1985, he lost his wife and childhood sweetheart of 67 years Alberta in April of 2017 and a brother Guy Thomas Castle of New York in August. Survived by two sisters Maryanne Buser of Bishop, CA and Alberta “Cry” of Jamestown, CA., he also leaves two sons Jimmy (Jill) of Angels Camp and Daniel ( Georgeanne) of Washington and a sister in law Jeannie Castle of Douglas Flat. Howard was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who he was especially proud of and loved dearly.

Born and raised in Angels Camp, Howard worked at the Calaveras Cement Plant . He was at One time partner in the Angels Food Market for many years before going to work with PG & E working in the Hydro Dept. as a laborer . He obtained his Water Treatment Certificate and worked in Angels Camp, Sonora and Tuolumne City. Later promoted to Field Supervisor at Tiger Creek powerhouse. When he retired, Howard was working as a field supervisor in the Hydro System in Tuolumne County.

Howard’s passion was trapshooting. He traveled through the western states winning many trophies and buckles. He at one time was the B-Singles champion at the California State Trapshooting Championship. He and his son Jimmy and grandson Lucas, teamed up with other shooters and won on several occasions, the 49er League Championship belt buckle at the Angels Gun Club.

A member of the Angels Gun Club for over 50 years, he was very active in the club as Trapmaster and Director. He held the Vice President office as well as the President of the club for many years along with putting in countless hours as trapmaster over the years. Well liked by all shooters, many will remember that when Howard was standing behind them and they missed a target, they would look to him to for guidance. “Keep your head on the gun” and “You Peaked” are familiar statements he would offer to the shooter. Active in the community, he and Alberta were active with the local Whiskerino dances and = the Calaveras County Fair. and was a Master Mason for 50+ years through the Bear Mountain Chapter of the Masons.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman throughout his life and made many fishing trips to Alaska with friends and family. A celebration of life for Howard and Alberta will be held with a Masonic Memorial Service at the Angels Gun Club on October 21, 2017 at 11 A.M.

Remembrances and donations can be made through the Sonora Hospice and/or Angels Gun Club.
