Sobriety Test Leads To Drug Bust For Angels P.D.

Angels Camp, CA...On 10-15-16, at approximately 2:30 AM, an Angels Camp Police Officer made a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Bird's Way, after noticing that a vehicle did not have a front license plate. The driver, who appeared to be following another vehicle, drove to the end of the dead end street and attempted a parking maneuver before finally coming to a stop. The occupants of the first vehicle exited the car and advised that they were on their way to a residence on the street.

While speaking with the driver the officer could smell the odor of alcohol on his breath, and during the course of conducting field sobriety tests narcotics were located on the ground near the area that the tests were being administered. Two baggies of suspected cocaine were recovered. At the conclusion of the field sobriety tests the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

While speaking with the front seat passenger in the vehicle, the officer could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed the following items; behind the front passenger seat there was an open container of Cognac. In the center console of the vehicle a digital scale with suspected cocaine residue was found. In the trunk of the vehicle a large jar of marijuana was found.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle stopped was enroute to a residence on Bird's Way, and the resident there was contacted.

Three (3) juveniles were contacted at the residence, none of whom reside at the address and all of whom had been consuming alcohol. Parents were contacted and responded to pick up their children.
