The first act features this year’s ballet production of “Alice’s Adventures,” using the traditional score for “Alice in Wonderland” by Tchaikovsky. “It’s traditional, but I have completely restructured the format of Tchaikovsky’s music to fit my version,” said Tammie Lee. Although the ballet is traditional, the audience will delight in the unexpected humor. “I felt this story is funny in so many ways, especially the ‘mad tea party.’ Audiences come to be entertained; comedy creates laughter which makes us feel good, and that’s what we want our audience to experience,” explained Tammie.

The second act is a showcase of nine new works choreographed by both students and teachers from Studio 4 School of Dance and Studio 4 Dance Theater. Each Spring Showcase production carries its own identity and creativeness. Dances range from contemporary to hip hop to tap to jazz. Returning student choreographers are Michaela Jarnagin, Molly Johnson, and Madison Pelland, each created a group contemporary number. Teacher choreographers include Debbie Dahlberg, the current tap teacher at Studio 4 School of Dance, who is creating two tap numbers. Elizabeth Ernst, a current student and teacher, is doing a contemporary hip hop dance; and Briana Gilbert, a current student and teacher is doing a contemporary solo. Elise Williams, the teen hip hop teacher, is creating her own hip hop number, and Studio 4 Dance Theater Director Tammie Lee is choreographing the finale.

Every year, Tammie is asked, “How are you going to top last year’s performance?” Her response is, “We just have to let the creative process begin. With the Spring Showcase, it’s not just ‘one thing’ that makes the show-- it’s everyone involved. Our dancers are growing and maturing as dancers, choreographers, and as artists, and that is what makes our performance better and better each year.”
