Valley Springs Attempted Murder
Valley Springs, CA...On 3/29/2015 at approximately 1805 hours, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of Paloma Road, in Valley Springs, for a report of a male subject being attacked by two men with baseball bats. Deputies arrived on scene and observed a 59 year old male who was covered in blood from an apparent head injury. Medical personal tended to the victim’s injuries and requested an air ambulance to transport the victim to a valley hospital...
Deputies learned through witnesses on scene that two suspects, one wearing a ski mask and holding a baseball bat and another male threw something at the victim’s vehicle causing the victim to stop his vehicle. As the victim exited his vehicle the two suspects sprayed the victim with pepper spray and began to strike the victim repeatedly with the bat. Witnesses overheard the attack and called the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident. The victim received significant and serious injuries as a result of the suspects’ actions with the bat.
On 03/30/15, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Detectives served a search warrant on the 300 block of Paloma Road, in Valley Springs. Detectives placed Jeffrey Scott Newby (43 years old) and Mike Patrick Newby (18 years old) under arrest for attempted murder. The Sheriff’s Department does not have an update on the victim’s medical status. The investigation into the attempted homicide is ongoing. Both Jeffrey Scott Newby and Mike Patrick Newby were booked into the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Jail. Mike Patrick Newby was booked for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, and Illegal Use of Pepper spray, bail set at $1,003,750. Jeffrey Scott Newby is being held for attempted murder and conspiracy, bail set at $1,000,000.
