Rotarians Help Provide Mobility
San Andreas, CA...Angels-Murphys Rotary Club Past-Presidents John Holleman and Roger La Jeunesse have an ongoing project of collecting broken and used wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Rotary District 5220 has partnered with Hope Haven West to repair and distribute the wheelchairs where they are sorely needed. Members of Riverbank Rotary have gone on delivery trips to fit specific recipients with their chairs in Mexico, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Chairs and equipment which need repair are sent to the South Dakota State Penitentiary where inmates refurbish them. The wheelchairs are provided primarily to children who are living with undiagnosed spina bifida, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. Some are adults who have never had a means of movement other than being carried by family members...
This week, Riverbank Rotarians John Lust and Albert Veldstra drove up to San Andreas with a horse trailer, which was promptly filled with Angels-Murphys Rotary’s latest collection of 10 wheelchairs, 27 1/2 pairs of crutches, 25 walkers, 9 canes, 6 bathroom chairs, 5 heavy-duty strollers and 5 boxes of wheelchair parts.
If you have any wheelchairs, walkers, crutches or other equipment, in any condition, that you no longer need, please contact John Holleman at 754-2077 or jholle2@goldrush.com, or Roger La Jeunesse at 728-8076 and they will gladly pick them up from your location.
