Gold Rush Day Street Fair and Celebration Coming Up on October 18th!

Angels Camp, CA...Angels Camp celebrated its centennial in 2012 with a day-long street fair, and the party was such a success the city decided to make it an annual event. Gold Rush Day is now in its third year and we’re gearing up for another great party on October 18. Beginning at 10am, Main Street in downtown Angels Camp becomes a pedestrian zone closed to traffic, free shuttle buses will be ferrying people from the parking lots at Bret Harte High School and the Calaveras County...

Fairgrounds throughout the day. Three stages along the street will feature a rotating line-up of live music and entertainment – including popular acts Grover Anderson and his band Route 88, The Fabulous Off Brothers, Sierra Mountain Band and Maria Behm, as well as jugglers and appearances by Mark Twain and Henry Angel impersonators.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 10:30am on the main stage near the Visitors Bureau headquarters. Each year Gold Rush Day highlights an aspect of local history and this year’s focus will be on the Angels Camp Foundry – otherwise known as California Electric Steel, celebrating 160 years as Angels Camp’s oldest continually operated business.

Head behind the main stage at the Visitors Bureau parking lot for a mini gold rush town, where the kids can pan for gold, see a working replica of the Angels Brothers Trading Post and take a step back in time. Keep an eye out for the Kit Carson Mountain Men too, with their black powder muzzle loading rifles and fur caps – they’re due to make appearances during the day.

An eclectic array of street vendors – from 80-100 are expected – will be selling crafts, clothing, food and beverages, and Main Street merchants will be out there too with a sidewalk sale. Food trucks, along with local wines, a beer garden and a rumored Margarita stand will round out the event’s offerings.

Organizers of this year’s Gold Rush day hope to make it the best one ever, having seen the number of visitors grow each year, they’ve extended the hours and are welcoming more vendors and – as well as participants in the mini gold rush town. Event manager Karon Knuist says, “We want to invite any type of Gold Rush activities to join in the celebration, such as blacksmiths, weavers, spinners, quilters, candle or soap makers – anyone that would like to demonstrate in our mini gold rush town.”
