Lillian May (McFarlane) Day May 30, 1911 - July 29, 2014

Arnold, CA...Our beloved Mother, “Grandma Day”, “Aunt Nonie”, Cousin and Friend, Lillian, stepped into Glory from her earthly home in Arnold, CA on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, to go live in her eternal home with her Lord Jesus Christ, at the age of 103 years, two months. Lillian was originally Canadian, born May 30, 1911 in Vancouver, British Columbia to Walter Agnew, and Ethel McFarlane. She was raised by her Maternal Grandmother, Selina McFarlane, in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, until her mid teens....

At 16, Lillian came to San Francisco by ship, became a U.S. citizen and Settled in Burlingame, CA, with her Mother Ethel and Stepfather, Albert Jess Hall. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1931, then met and married David Hugh (Dye) Day, six months later. The two eloped to Reno, NV, February 20, 1931 during the height of the Great Depression. The young couple settled in San Carlos, where both lived for 47 years and raised their family of four children, all of whom married -- two sons, William “Bill” Day (Joanne) and Bruce Day (Kathryn), and two daughters, Susan Day Hosford (James) and Carole Day Fletcher (John).

In her early adult years, Lillian worked for Hammond Aircraft and Dalmo Victor, as a Secretary. She became a full-time homemaker for 14 years, then returned to work for 27 more years at the former San Mateo Medical Clinic record room (on Baldwin at El Camino Real) and made many friends.

Though she never learned to drive, Lillian enjoyed walking, as well as traveling to such places as Banff, Alberta and Lake Louise, taking a road trip across the United States with her husband and friends, touring Europe, vacationing in Hawaii, cruising the Caribbean and visiting the grandeur of Yosemite time and again.

Lillian moved from San Carlos to San Andreas, CA, in 1988, after her husband’s stroke. She lived there 15 years, then went to live with family in Arnold, CA, until her death. She was into genealogy for years, loved her extended family, surrounded herself with their photos and kept each of their birth dates lovingly in her memory until she died. She also enjoyed reading, keeping up with current events, and working crossword puzzles, among other interests.

Preceding her in death were her Mother, Ethel and her Stepfather, Albert Jess Hall, Aunt Elizabeth “Betty” Wenborn, (1985), husband of 57 years, Dave (1989), Cousins Robert “Bob” and Jack Wenborn (1993), and both sons -- Bill (1993) and Bruce (2001) -- who both succumbed on May 29th, eight years apart -- and two infants, a Grandson, John Christian Fletcher (1974) and Great Grandson, John Christian Catterall (1998).

Lillian is survived by her two Daughters, 13 Grandchildren 17 Great Grandchildren, three Great Great Grandchildren, Nephews and Nieces, along with many Cousins. She was grateful to God for her many years and a sound mind. She was an inspiration to all, admired for her warm sense of humor, sweet spirit, loving kindness, generosity and grace. Lillian will be greatly missed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Angels Memorial Chapel, Angels Camp, CA. The family asks that donations, in Lillian’s honor, be made to Hospice of the Sierras, 20100 Cedar Road North, CA Sonora, CA 95370. www.sonoramedicalcenter.org.
A Celebration or Life will be held at the Fletcher home in Arnold, CA, October 12th 2014. Inurnment will be at Alta Mesa Memorial Cemetery, Palo Alto, CA.
