Arnold Man's Morning Run Turns Into Firefighting Effort
Arnold, Ca...During his morning run on the Arnold Rim Trail on Thursday, July 24th, 2014, around 9:00 AM, Jon Faust and his dog, Blondy, noticed smoke coming from down by a nearby creek. Initially thinking it was just a campfire, upon investigating Jon found a ground fire that was starting to spread to the trees. Jon had walked into a homeless camp where the fire had escaped the fire ring; the residents of the camp weren't present. There were cans of food and sleeping bags on the ground, one of which Jon used to knock some of the flames down. He did his best to stomp out the ground fire, but it had been burning for too long, and was too hot. Running back to his truck, Jon drove to CDF on Highway 4, but all units and staff were out. Calling 911 from the office, units were dispatched in time to keep the ground fire from turning into something much worse. Thanks to Jon Faust and his quick actions!
