Calaveras Educators Tapped To Attend Prestigious International Conference
Orlando, Florida...Five Calaveras County educators had the chance to participate in the 22nd Annual Model Schools Conference in Orlando, FL from June 22-25th. Scott Nanik, Director, Calaveras County Office of Education; Angela Howard, Vice Principal, Jenny Lind Elementary; Jennifer Truman, Teacher, Bret Harte High School; Mike Nagano, Lead Teacher, Calaveras River Academy; and Tierra Crothers, Principal, San Andreas Elementary attended the conference together to gather information and ideas for improving education in Calaveras County. Participants were invited to attend by the Calaveras County Office of Education. CCOE paid for the conference with funds provided through the Regional System of District and School Support, Region 6 (http://www.sjcoe.org/rsdss/#.U7G0I0BBlps). The conference, which is organized by the International Center for Leadership in Education (http://leadered.com/), has identified schools across the nation and around the world that have made tremendous strides in student learning. Twenty-two of those schools (six elementary schools, six middle schools and ten high schools) presented their strategies at the conference.

The team attended workshops from more than 100 available sessions that focused on raising the rigor and relevance of instruction for all students, transforming student learning experiences by using instructional technology, improving instructional effectiveness, and finding ways to create and implement an effective, engaging learner environment.
“It was a fantastic conference, with almost 5,000 attendees. It inspired us to think outside the box on how to improve our schools in Calaveras County,” said Nanik.
The team will develop a presentation to share their learning from the conference, which will be presented to school boards and educational groups around Calaveras County.
