Behind The Bottle Is Up And Running All Weekend Long

Murphys, CA....Behind The Bottle 2014 is up and running with events all weekend. A weekend long up close and personal look at the wine industry, entertainment & more. Last night the event kicked off with a great dinner and concert in Murphys Park. Photos are below. A full schedule of events is enclosed.....







Behind the Bottle Schedule of Events 2014

All day events on Saturday and Sunday 11am – 5pm

Ayrael Vieux Winery – Winemaker Kate MacDonald discusses Estate Winery operations, and offers new wine releases, special discounts, vineyard tours, and barrel tasting.

Black Sheep – Fete de la Fleur is the traditional Bordeaux celebration of the flowering of the grape vines held during Summer Soltice. Black Sheep is celebrating with wine, food and music.

Brice Station – Solstice concert all day, free to Behind the Bottle ticket holders. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic!

Broll Mountain – Broll Mountain Vineyards will be pouring our newly released 2009 Syrah and also our 2007 Baxter’s Red. In addition we will be offering for tasting without charge our 100% estate bottled Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah together with our Roussanne.

Chatom is open to Behind the Bottle glass holders from 11am to 5 pm for tasty snacks, festivities and chats with our wine maker. (glasses can be purchased or picked-up here starting at 11am)

Frog’s Tooth Vineyards - Come join us for a fun filled weekend at Frog’s Tooth Vineyards of wine, food, music and learnin’ stuff. We will be feauturing several pre-release wines and maybe even a barrel sample or two. Enjoy a glass of wine on the patio while listening to the tintilating sounds of Nick Lefler from 1-4 on both days. Build on your wine aroma sensory data bank with an aroma table that will train your nose to a identify a wide variety of wine aromas. Ever wonder what casis smells like? Well, now’s your chance. Special Behind the Bottle discounts and specials.

Hatcher – Matt Hatcher will be in the tasting room all day with barrel samples and answering your questions about the production of the wines.

Ironstone – Saturday and Sunday 11-4 we will have our Reserve bar open for tasting and hors d’oeurves for Behind the Bottle Guests, welcoming to Behind the Bottle Guests with a tasting and knowledge of our finest wines, and hors d’oeurves!

Milliaire – Fete de la Fleur is the traditional Bordeaux celebration of the flowering of the grape vines held during Summer Solstice. Milliaire is celebrating with wine, food and music. Bob Millier, wine-maker, will be at in the tasting room all day on Saturday and Sunday to meet participants.

Stevenot will have barrel tastings and pre-released wines for tasting and the owners and wine maker will be on hand sharing their wine and production notes.

Tanner will be pouring a new release that showcases their estate grown Carignane grape: the popular Angelo’s Red, a blend named after the Tanner’s great-grandfather, the first licensed winemaker in Calaveras County. In addition, a sumptuous library selection—the flagship Mélange de Mère—will be poured.

Twisted Oak (Vallecito Tasting Room) Join TO in the cave! They will be tasting two vintages of the River of Skulls Mourvedre and other surprise vintages. Winery staff will educate guests on the differences between vintages and barrel types. Fun will be had.

Val du Vino Val du Vino will be offering tastings of some brand new wine releases, tantilizing treats created by Chef Jeannine, and as always a fun, energetic environment with plenty of entertainment provided by winemaker, Jonathon!

Vina Moda – will be offering two barrel samples for tasters to guess which varietals they are tasting. Winemaker Nathan Vader will be on hand to give you some hints and test your palate. Nathan will then be pouring samples of their exclusive wine club blends.





Saturday 10 am



Broll Mountain – Our Vineyard Manager, Mark Skenfield, will be providing an interactive seminar on fruit thinning for premium wine production at 10:00 am on Saturday. Meet at the tasting room and follow Mark out to our showpiece vineyard for a hands-on experience demonstrating secrets to making great wines in the vineyard.



Saturday 11 am



La Folia – Join Master Charcuterer, John Marmesh of Gold Rush Meats for a seminar on the origins and production of charcuterie. Pair John’s locally cured meats paired with La Folia’s Cal-Italian specialty wines.

Murphys Historic Hotel – SOLD OUT – Cheese and wine pairing class with professional cheese monger Judy Creighton

Val du Vino – Join winemaker, Jonathon Phillips, for a tour of the winery; the only working winery located on Main Street Murphys. Known as a gourmet destination, expect a mouth-watering treat from Chef Jeannine to pair with the wines you will be tasting.



Saturday 12:30 pm



Chatom Vineyards – Jump down the rabbit hole and enter Chatom’s whacky cellar wonderland for Chatom Vineyards’ Mad Hatter “Tea” Party. Jason Lewis, wine maker and resident mad hatter, will be pulling out tricks for an exciting sensory seminar. Guests will test their noses with an aroma identification game. Join the gallymoggers at Chatom for fun and futterwhacken, Door prizes, exclusive wine specials and tasty snacks.





Saturday 1:30 pm



Black Sheep – Winemaker Steve Millier will give a talk at 1:30 pm on Fete de la Fleur. Our wines will be paired with grilled and BBQ summer foods.



Saturday 2 pm



Allegorie – a discussion on Super Tuscan Varietals, led by Steve Collum, vineyard manager. A special tasting of the Bene Gusto Super Tuscan Red Blend.

Ayrael Vieux Winery – 2-4pm Winery Owner Bob Eisenman steps out from behind the bottle to play saxophone with his jazz trio.





Saturday 3 pm



Milliaire – Steve Millier will give a talk on Fete de la Fleur and our local vineyards. Bob Millier will be pairing grilled foods with Milliaire wines.



Sunday 10am



El Portal Vineyard, behind Val du Vino – Viticulturist Mark Skenfield will be providing an interactive seminar on fruit thinning for premium wine production at his Murphys vineyard. Join him to gain hands-on experience performing this wine-quality enhancing task. (drive thru electric gate, park in front of vineyard)



Sunday 11 am
