Senators Gaines & Steinberg Fight to Bring Tesla Motors Inc. Jobs to California

Sacramento, Ca – Senator Ted Gaines (R-Roseville) today announced that he and Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) have introduced Senate Bill 1309, a bi-partisan bill that would entice Tesla Motors Inc. to build a large-scale battery factory in California. “Tesla is about to build a $5 billion factory and create 6,500 jobs somewhere in this country. We can and should do everything humanly possible to bring those jobs to California,” said Senator Gaines. Senate Bill 1309 declares the legislature’s intent to utilize financial incentives, changes to regulatory and environmental processes, and other possible tools to expedite construction in California. “Everything is on the table – tax credits, investment credits, hiring credits. We need to show Tesla that we’ll cut through the red tape that frustrates companies in this state and prove that California is open for business,” said Senator Gaines. “There’s no excuse. I call on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join Senator Steinberg and me in getting this done immediately.”...

“Whenever the state creates incentives for business, it should be for industries that not only bring good-paying middle class jobs but also use clean technology to help curb pollution and improve the health of Californians,” said Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg. “We can hit both these targets of strengthening our economy and fighting climate change with the construction and operation of this manufacturing plant in California. We’re strongly committed to working with the Brown Administration and the Assembly to make it happen.”

Tesla Motors Inc. designs, manufactures and sells luxury electric vehicles.

Senator Ted Gaines represents the 1st Senate District, which includes all or parts of Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Shasta, Sierra and Siskiyou counties.
