First Ever Ranch House Poetry Competition
Frogtown, CA...Frogtown Rounding Up Cowboy Poets For First Ever Ranch House Poetry Competition on May 16 at the 2014 Calaveras County Fair. Cowboy poets will compete for braggin' rights and a $200 cash prize in the First Ever Ranch House Cowboy Poetry Competition on May 16 at Frogtown. The event is an added attraction at the 2014 Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, May 15-18....
Entries are due by May 13. The writers will read/recite/sing their entries at the event, set for 4 p.m. on May 16 at the Ranch House hospitality center.
Entrants should focus on stories of today's, real working West -- poems and lyrics that say something special about cowboying, ranching or rural life. Beyond platitudes, subjects should original, well-developed stories, especially those based on personal experience. Original works previously published elsewhere are welcome and contestants can accompany themselves on a musical instrument.
Content must be original material suitable for a wide audience, including young readers/listeners. Men, women and children are welcome to enter. Themes should not idealize the "Old West," reflect a "Hollywood" view or use worn jokes or bathroom humor.
There is a $10 entry fee to be paid at the May 16 event. Limit of one poem or lyric per person. The writer must appear to read/recite/sing their entry. Submissions may be published on the Fair website. The Fairgrounds Administration reserves the right to refuse any submittal deemed unsuitable.
