Sonora to Yosemite YARTS Bus Service Begins May 16

Sonora, CA... Beginning Thursday, May 16, Tuolumne County Transit Agency and Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) with Yosemite National Park, will once again team up to offer bus service between Sonora, Groveland and Yosemite National Park. The bus service, which was very popular in 2012, will offer park visitors an easy, comfortable, money-saving way to visit Yosemite without having to drive, fight traffic or search for parking....



The YARTS Sonora to Yosemite Bus will run from May 16 through September 15 with stops in Sonora, Groveland, Buck Meadows, Yosemite Lakes and Big Oak Flat. [Map Attached]

• During the shoulder seasons of May 16 to June 14 and August 19 to September 15, the bus will make one round trip per day, leaving Sonora at 8 AM. and arriving at Yosemite Valley at 10:40 AM. The return bus will leave the Yosemite Visitor Center at 5:10 PM.
• During the peak summer season, June 15 to August 18, YARTS will run two buses in each direction. Morning buses will leave Sonora at 7:00 and 8:00 AM and return buses will leave Yosemite Visitor Center at 5:10 and 6:10 PM.

YARTS’ tour style coaches offer comfortable, reclining seats, overhead racks individual reading lights, and big windows to enjoy the scenery. Under-bus storage provides lots of room for backpacks, luggage, bikes and family gear. [Photo Attached]

For the first time this year, YARTS riders will be able to buy their tickets on line at www.yarts.com, using a VISA or MasterCard. They will also be able to use cash (US$), VISA or MasterCard to purchase tickets from the driver.

YARTS fares are family friendly. One child (12 or younger) rides free with each paying adult. Additional children (12 and younger) ride at a reduced price. Seniors (62+) and persons with disabilities also receive a discounted fare. All fares include the Yosemite gate fee (a savings of $20 per vehicle).

The fare from Sonora to Yosemite is $25 for adults, $18 for seniors (62+), persons with disabilities, and additional youth (12 and younger). From Groveland the full fare is just $15, and the discounted fare is $10. Complete fare information is available at www.sonorayosemitebus.com.

Once in the Yosemite Valley, visitors can connect to the Yosemite Valley Shuttle system which provides free transportation within the Valley and to El Capitan. In addition, there are fee based shuttles to Glacier Point and Tuolumne Meadows. More information about the shuttles can be found at www.nps.gov.

Each year about 4 million visitors travel to Yosemite National Park. YARTS Sonora to Yosemite bus service is funded by the National Park Service which encourages visitors to visit Yosemite the car-free way.
