Some Yummy Hot Beverages~by Jenny Baxter of Jennys Kitchen

There comes a time in winter when neither beast nor man cares to venture out and fight the new round of falling snow, but alas the driveway needs to be shoveled, the pathways cleared, the snow pushed off the decks, the icicles knocked off the roofs edge and so on and so forth. Yet once back inside your cozy abode the warmth from the fire does not seem to heat your chilled bones. So how does a warm cognac, hot buttered rum, hot toddy or a Bailey’s with hot chocolate sound? I thought you’d be interested. Now, hot buttered rum can be made into a single serving drink, so let’s get you warmed up so you can make some hot buttered rum batter that will last you the entire season.......

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 oz. spiced or dark rum

Place the sugar in a heat proof goblet or mug. Add a little hot water and stir until the sugar dissolves. Add the butter and cinnamon and stir again. Add the rum and top it off with hot water. Make sure to stir the concoction well to dissolve the sugar and melt the butter.

Hot Buttered Rum for a Crowd

Box dark brown sugar

1 cube butter

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon nutmeg

½ teaspoon cloves

Mix the sugar and the butter until combined. Add the spices and mix until thoroughly combined. Store the batter in an air tight container in the refrigerator.

For each serving of Hot Buttered Rum place:

1 Tablespoon of the batter into a heat proof mug.

Add some hot water and stir to dissolve. Then add the rum to your taste.

Finally top the drink with more hot water.

Stir thoroughly.

Hot Toddy

2 oz. whiskey

1 teaspoon honey

Cinnamon stick

Slice of lemon

Pour the whiskey into a heat proof mug.

Add the honey and stir to dissolve.

Add enough hot water to fill the mug.

Drop in the cinnamon stick and lemon slice

Hot Chocolate Bailey’s Style

2 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream

1 oz. Crème de Cocoa

Hot chocolate

Whip cream

Grated chocolate

Place the liqueurs in a heat proof mug.

Add enough of the hot chocolate milk to fill the mug.

Top the drink with whipped cream and then sprinkle the grated chocolate over the top.

Well it’s thyme to shovel so I can enjoy my favorite Bailey’s drink guilt free!
