Jenny Ventures Out in Nevada to Lexie's Steak House for This Week's "Table Hopping!"

As U2, mine and Kim’s favorite vocal group, sang “Beautiful Day, “indeed it was as I journeyed over the Highway 88 Pass on my way to Nevada. I just knew I had missed the beautiful foliage that changes color this time of year, but was I ever surprised to learn that I was wrong! The colors were breath-taking! Hues of golden amber, ruby red, sunshine yellow, and cinnamon brown leaves shimmering in the slight breeze of the Quaking Aspen, Birch and Maple trees set against the forest green pines and cedars was a sight to .....

behold. Hope Valley was on fire with color! As I got closer to Nevada, the landscape changing to tumbleweeds and barren hills, I could see the horses with their graceful necks lowered nibbling on the sparse grass that outlined the mountain range and lazy Black Angus cattle sashaying across the pastures in search of prairie grass and water. It brought me back to why I was even traveling to Nevada. I was going to dine at Lexie’s Steak House in the Siena Hotel Spa and Casino with my daughter Gina in celebration of our birthdays. She had encouraged me to arrive early so we could partake in the ultimate early bird specials which consisted of a three course gourmet dinner accompanied with the best service I have ever been given. We were promptly seated by our hostess in front of a window that enclosed the entire front of the restaurant as it faced the Carson River. Once she placed the napkin in our laps and presented us with the menu we were greeted by Michael and Lee, who would both be our waiters. Donned in their black and white attire, they began to ready us for a fabulous meal. We had our choice of the soup of the day or a salad of field greens, blue cheese crumbles, and pickled onions with apple honey vinaigrette. We chose the salad. We had five unique entrees to choose from. A grilled Top Sirloin with a green peppercorn sauce, asparagus Bearnaise, Parmesan & garlic steak fries; grilled chicken breast and Italian sausage, pickled peppers and onions, garlic mashed potatoes, & broccini; veal scaloppini, Cremini mushrooms, Marsala sautéed spinach, & sage/Parmesan risotto; Atlantic salmon ginger-honeyed glazed, wild rice pilaf & baby bok choy; and finally seafood capellini consisting of shrimp, clams, mussels, and Pancetta, in a sherry cream sauce. And if that wasn’t enough we also had a choice of two yummy desserts, warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream or a chocolate lovers cake made with Godiva chocolate with orange and raspberry sauce. I wanted to start with my dessert course first!! And are you ready for this…$18.95 per person!! Gina ordered the beef and I ordered the fish. As I watched the river rush over the rocks lit by the vanishing sun talking and laughing with my daughter our main course arrived. The presentation was beautiful! The 3-D effect was ever so pleasing to the eye as Mike and Lee tended to our beverages, refilling our basket of savory breads, and making sure we were satisfied. Halfway through the meal Gina decided her steak was a little too rare for her tastes and asked that it be cooked a little longer. Now, most restaurants would have removed the meat and returned it placing it on the same plate. Not at Lexie’s! The entire plate was removed and the steak was presented once again with fresh asparagus and potatoes. I certainly was impressed! But let me tell you what impressed me the most, my chocolate dessert! I did not want to eat it due to its beautiful arrangement! The cake was centered off to the side of my small white plate with swirls of the orange raspberry sauce around one side and a dusting of powdered chocolate on the other and in the center of the cake was a white chocolate tiara! I thought I had died and gone to chocolate heaven!! So my faithful readers, if you are ever in Reno and want a great place to dine or feel like taking a drive over the pass for a meal this is it. And I do mean dine. We spent 2 hours and 20 minutes in that eating establishment and it was not crowded. Be prepared for a true dining experience not just a dinner out.

Well, it’s thyme to go Jenny Baxter Jenny’s Kitchen
