Calaveras, CA...Saint Patrick’s Day is creeping up and with the holiday falling in the middle of the week, events are sprawled out over this weekend and next. Even if you don’t have the luck of the Irish and a pot of gold at the end of your rainbow, here are a few ideas to fit your lean-on-the-green budget…..


FREE

If you are a vertically challenged leprechaun who is short on green a Volkswagen is the perfect little economical car for you. Skip on down to the 6th annual ”Sonntag Treffen” annual spring VW get together hosted by the Mother Lode Volkswagen Club and the Tri-Dam Lions Club. Admission is free and you can browse through all sorts of Volkswagen treasures with their swap meet section, then party it up like an Irish lass at the BBQ and beer booth. They have a raffle with proceeds benefiting the Visiting Nurses Association. The grand prize will be a 2HP portable compressor as well as a 50/50 cash raffle. Saturday enjoy a stroll through the tree lined streets of Murphys for another round of the “Murphys Art Walk”. Meet the artists and gawk at the galleries from 4pm – 7pm. Over 30 artists and 20 businesses will be displaying out lovely local treasures.

Brides and want-to-be brides can enjoy a free day out at Frogtown tasting cakes and catering, gawking at invitations, floral and more for the first annual Mother Lode Bridal Faire this Sunday. SPEND
Hear ye, hear ye, can I get a hizarre! The Celtic Faire is back for another round with concerts, whiskey tasting, full contact jousting, and some of the most unique trinkets and bobbles known to. This is truly a family friendly event where you will be greeted by Celtic re-enactors and a giant old world serpent as you enter the gates into the fantastical fairytale land of Celtic history. If you prefer to pull up a blanket and lounge around in the grass while sipping wine you can enjoy a magical night at Ironstone in the amphitheater enjoying a silent movie on Saturday. This evening will include silent shorts of the 1920's featuring Charlie Chaplin. Tickets are $20 per person and include a buffet dinner, movie, popcorn and dessert. Dinner starts at 6:30 pm and the movie starts at 7:30 pm. The event will be hosted by a Charlie Chaplin impersonator. For reservations or more information call 209-728-1251

Fun Run/Walk for Cancer in Valley Springs on Saturday at the Toyon Middle School. You can choose from a 4.5m Road and Trail Course, a 2m Road Run, a Youth Dash or a Tot Trot. Casino Night at Copperopolis Armory, 695 Main Street, on Saturday, March 14, 2009 sponsored by Friends of the Library, the Copperopolis Community Center and Copperopolis Parks & Recreation. Twenty-one and over welcome. Doors open at 5:00 pm for dinner. Hot dogs, chips and soda, beer and wine for purchase. Games begin at 6:00 pm sharp with an initial $20 for 20,000 worth in chips.
