Dear Mr. President Please Help Us Value People Over Fish ~ By Supervisor Dennis Mills

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/21/2018 12:05 PM
Angels Camp, CA...The Following letter has been sent to the President by Calaveras County Supervisor Dennis Mills.
Dear Mr. President: I am writing to you on behalf of thousands of California citizens, farmers, business leaders, local and state elected officials, and even conservationists who are strongly opposed to a plan by the California State Water Resources Board to drain our reservoirs in a vain attempt to save a few fish. Simply put this proposal places a higher value on fish than people! After extensive opposition presented in numerous hearings in the Central Valley of California, the State Water Resources Board remains committed to their plan which would remove as much as 50% of the water flowing out of our Sierra rivers and sending it out the Golden Gate in order to improve habitat for a small number of Salmon.

Interior Secretary Zinke Inspecting Dams & Water Infrastructure with Congressmen McClintock & Denham

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/20/2018 03:14 PM
Tuttletown, CA...Currently Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke along with local Congressmen Tom McClintock & Jeff Denham. are touring our local reservoirs, dams and water infrastructure. Not only do these facilities provide water for our residents, agriculture & fire fighting they also have come under increased scrutiny after the state owned Oroville Dam was stressed and triggered evacuations during the storms of 2017. Don Pedro had to open emergency spillways which caused some road closures but not nearly the disruptions that the Orville incident did. Since then dam and storage operators have been making sure their facilities can handle increased weather uncertainty.

The Ferguson Fire Scorches its way to 21,541 Acres, Containment Climbs to 7%, No Structures Lost, 2,711 Personnel, 2 Firefighters Injured, 1 Fatality

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/19/2018 09:53 PM
Ahwahnee, CA...An unusually heavy inversion stayed over the fire today keeping overall fire activity moderate despite thunderstorm development over the Sierra Crest. The inversion did lift briefly in the late afternoon allowing some columns to build, especially over Sweetwater Ridge and on the Southeastern corner of the fire. Today, the fire continued to grow north on Ferguson Ridge and toward Highway 140 in the Merced River Canyon, across from the community of El Portal. The fire has remained on the south side of the river. Crews continued structure preparation around residences and businesses today in Yosemite West and Jerseydale. Crews also worked on constructing contingency line southeast of Jerseydale, and along Henness Ridge between Highway 140 and the Wawona Road (the continuation of Highway 41 in Yosemite National Park). That contingency line has been completed to Kirby Peak.

California Supreme Court Removes California Split Initiative from Ballot

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/18/2018 08:28 PM
Sacramento, CA....The California Supreme Court ruling today will effectively remove the CA Three proposition from the November Ballot. From the Court..."Time constraints require the court to decide immediately whether to permit Proposition 9 to be placed on the November 6, 2018, ballot pending final resolution of this matter. Although our past decisions establish that it is usually more appropriate to review challenges to ballot propositions or initiative measures after an election (Costa v. Superior Court (2006) 37 Cal.4th 986, 1005), we have also made clear that in some instances, when a substantial question has been raised regarding the proposition's validity and the "hardships from permitting an invalid measure to remain on the ballot" outweigh the harm potentially posed by "delaying a proposition to a future election, " it may be appropriate to review a proposed measure before it is placed on the ballot.
